How to Measure Your Toilet Rough-In & Angle Stop
Before buying or scheduling a toilet installation, use this simple guide to measure your rough-in distance and angle stop location. These measurements help avoid installation issues, especially with skirted or bidet-style toilets.
Step 1: Measure the Rough-In
The rough-in is the distance from the finished wall (not baseboard) to the center of the toilet bolts or flange.
Most toilets require a 12" rough-in. Bidet models like the Toto Neorest require at least 12".

Measure from the top of the molding to the center of the bolt
Step 2: Measure the Angle Stop
The angle stop is the shut-off valve that connects to your toilet. Measure:
- Horizontal: From the center of the rough-in to the valve.
- Vertical: From the finished floor to the valve center.
This is especially important for skirted or bidet toilets, which need clearance.

Measure the vertical distance from the floor to the center of the water supply/angle stop, and the horizontal distance from the center of the rough-in to the center of the angle stop.
